Actually, I don't know what you mean, I've been shopping at Fry's starting at their original Lakeside Drive Sunnyvale store in 1985, and I've done dozens of price adjustments and returns over the year, and other than the wait in the return line, it's always been fast and trouble free for me.
I especially don't know what you mean about purchasing an item, I think their one queue feeding a large bank of cash register stations is far more efficient than places like Wal-Mart or Costco.
But maybe this is all because I'm very familiar with their store, know where everything is, and don't talk to any of the sales people.
Returns: Stand in return line, wait forever, finally get helped, wait as your return is given the thrice-over, wait for a manager to arrive to approve return, get issued a green credit slip, get sent to second line with said green credit slip, stand in second line, wait forever, finally get helped, get refund.
Purchases aren't too bad, unless the line is long. God forbid you pay with a personal check, though.
