I would think that any news of flying away from where YOU reside (HI) would be pretty far down the Polynesian totem pole of news to keep abreast of. 
J/K - My dad lived/stationed on Oahu for 2 years and said he could not wait to leave. lol
Why don't we have non-profits/NGOs/Not-for-profits/Charities/subsidized travel for more than commuter-related and/or Amtrak? I've often thought/pondered about a not-for-profit car dealership - think "Credit Union" model of business, or such. shrug
On a related note, the TSA wants in on a cut of this money....pay THEM for your baggage, not the airlines.
