I just had that sorta same thing happen to me.
Cut down some 25 foot bushes in the side yard, laying them down in the driveway so I could cut them smaller. one of the last ones had a nest in it, pretty small, but well built.
Showed it to the kids and said "hey look, an empty nest" -- they thought it was cool, youngest one is going to take it to show and tell.
They went inside and I started cutting through the pile and sweeping up the leaves -- got near the bottom and noticed a couple of yellow runny stains on the concrete -- ugh -- the eggs must have fallen out and broke when I laid the branch on its side.
Felt kinda crappy.
