Just saw Elton John
#18
The man played three hours straight, no break. He even played mostly solo a couple times just to give his band a break. Great entertainer.

Amazing.

Would you comment on what the tickets were going for, for those who had to pay?

Is it just me, or does that seem to cheapen the value of seeing him a bit?

That it's you, or the perception of anybody attending the show. We can talk trash about any venue, but really, it's generally a good gig for somebody who doesn't want to tour a lot.

The real value is in the performance itself, the venue is almost irrelevant. Ask Stephanie- she's seen Duran Duran in a ton of places and still enjoys them.

Isn't it almost like seeing an exhibit in a zoo? Even though it'll probably be a huge show, I think I'd rather see an act in the wild rather than in captivity.

Staying in one place for any length of time increases the chances of seeing on "off" show, but exhibit? Wild show? Do you want to be at some redneck bar where the patrons throw beer bottles at the performers once they're drunk enough?

Autopilot crap. If it's a really good performance, it ain't auto pilot.

I will say that I prefer smaller venues, but the days of Elton or most big-time performers showing up at small clubs are pretty much history. Except maybe for jazz artists. Most of them don't get the big gigs anyway.

I've seen plenty of younger acts who don't put anywhere near as much into a performance...

Exactly!

A lot of younger performers are weak for various reasons. But hey, they're young, they're hip, they're cool, they're in, and that's all that matters.

...as that man and his band did tonight.

And that's what it boils down to, for me anyway. Did you have a good time? Are you glad you went? Aces.

Idiots want to pee on the parade, but if they weren't there then they don't know crap. I'd rather see him now than in his much younger Kiki Dee/Crocodile Rock days.

If you get a chance, could you list the songs he did? I'd be interested the repertoire.
