I've had a CO meter for years. I bought it because we had an old furnace and gas fireplace that were both non-direct-vent (i.e. like most of the furnaces and gas fireplaces in the US) and therefore susceptible to back drafting. I didn't like the idea of not waking up one day. Just in the last two years there have been at least two publicized deaths in our city alone due to CO poisoning due to leaking or backdrafting old gas heating systems. This is not a rare occurrence.
