I would say that, as you have guessed, they would process a return of your white iPad and credit your Target card account, and then you would have a new purchase transaction of the black iPad, which would be taxable at that location.

Have you asked an employee at the store where you want to purchase if they can give you any information on when they might have the model you want in stock, or to scan the inventories of the other Delaware stores to see if they have any in stock?
