But...in that case, I kept everything contained on the SSD to get around the hassles of splitting out the user folder, etc. But, at work I also have the luxury of additional drive bays (external SATA enclosure) and spare drives, so I have a pretty good backup process in place. When my SSD failed after a month of use (and was getting replaced), I had to temporarily go back to a spinning platter drive. I did notice the difference, but it wasn't night and day different.
I totally get where you're coming from from the standpoint of wanting to upgrade your old machine to something that feels a little snappier, but I'm at the point that I'm finding it difficult to justify the expense for such an incremental improvement in speed. Then again, I'm using my home Mac Pro less and less for things that require top-notch performance, so it probably doesn't make sense to put more money into this machine.
