I don't think he was so much "bad-mouthing" it - as he was, describing both his experience with it and how it fits in to what he does. As an MD (Pinky) - I'd think it would be tough to go beyond old pals, etc. I've certainly tried with a few of mine, and a few cousins, and got little or no reply.
I made pals with a couple of people from the forum - but that was sort of pointless - since I'm already talking to them here. I made a few friends with people who were friends of friends, and I can't really do much with that kind of relationship, so I bailed on it too - and there was a sense of relief because I knew I wasn't missing anything.

I don't understand how you (pinkoos) can badmouth something that you apparently don't really use and don't really understand. Facebook is just a tool. Some people use it for posting nonsense, some people use it to post baby pictures, and some people use it to keep in touch with far flung family and friends. I'm in the last category and find it invaluable for keeping up with friends and family members all over the world. The facebook experience is completely under your control and functions based on the decisions you make. If you don't like how your facebook "friends" are using it, then hide their posts. If they decide they don't want to use it then call them on the phone instead.
