There is a way to prevent being tagged altogether. The controls are pretty complete now, you can even specify that you don't want too see a friend's photos or "likes" and so on. You can fix it so you don't see anything they do if that floats your boat.

And no, they do not own your content. Look it up, it is simply not true.
