Thumb Drive and Secure Empty Trash?

I have some files on a thumb drive I want to erase completely from that drive. I don't want to erase the whole thumb drive and reformat it again. So if I drag the files off the thumb drive into the trash and select Secure Empty Trash will that totally erase the files from the thumb drive?
