People would rather blame you for your choice in computer instead of offering a single bit of helpful advice.

I doubt it was a problem since VLC also choked on it, but I would make sure QuickTime is up to date. What browser downloaded the file? Any reason to think it specifically is corrupting the download? Can your daughter transfer the video directly to her computer from the iPhone?
