There has been TONS of excitement! Will Palin run? Will Trump? Why are so many women coming out against Herman Cain? Has newt already started the moon base?
Once the republicans decide whether it's the sweatervest revolution or smitten with Mitty then they'll be left with what they really knew all along - Obama has more charisma than republican candidates have crazy.
Don't confuse a lack of excitement in the primary between candidates and the big election in Nov against Obama.

I think a lot of it depends on whether Republicans can get their voters excited about the race in the fall. If they are not excited about their candidate and his chances, that will suppress turnout and hurt other Republicans down-ticket.
