As I mentioned in an earlier thread, our sort-of-socialist neighbors to the north are now richer than we are. Why? Because they REGULATED THEIR BANKS. And thereby avoided the catastrophe that was 2008 in the United States, and the subsequent deep recession and real estate crash. We don't need less government involvement with Wall Street, we need a lot more. The role of government is to ensure that while they are in the process of making money, businesses don't destroy our entire economy. Government and business are partners in our society, not enemies. Making government the enemy, which seems to be the current Republican mantra (ironically of Republicans IN that government,) is the exact opposite of what we need.
