I like a story one of my coworkers tells about his buddy who works cyber-security for a "large credit card company"...
They had an outage that literally got him on a hastily rented corporate jet at 2am to fly out to the data center...
To find a fifty cent bad ethernet cable had taken down the $30 million data center.
And yes, they should have had a redundant connection to take the load when the fifty cent cable failed...
Apparently, that was a part of the "lesson learned".
