With Verizon alone plastering LTE commercials all over the place, I would be surprised if people haven't heard of the term.
Point of interest, while I redeemed my $20 Target gift card (bonus with my recent iPad purchase) in exchange for a Speck MagFolio Lounge case, the Target team member chatted me up about her recent Kindle HD purchase. As we debated the merits of the iPad, Kindle Fire, Nook Color/Tablet, Galaxy Nexus 7, etc. something she said stood out, her specific mention of the Kindle Fire HD LTE model. This regular person had no problem dropping the LTE model by name, for whatever that is worth.
