Béisbol celebrations - a question for old timers

Most of that meant absolutely nothing to this UKer until the last two words, Dan Gurney. Among many things I know about the man do I take it you are referring to the fact that he introduced the idea of spraying champagne on motor racing podiums or am I way off base?
