Thumb Drive and Secure Empty Trash?

I knew that and I'm not so paranoid to run a 7 way erase. That thumb drive goes everywhere with me and just want to be certain those files won't be easily recovered if lost. I think Secure Empty Trash, erase and reformat will do just fine ... no hammer needed.
