Our trusty old B&D started getting hot spots and one of the elements failed. One half of the bagel top burnt, the other soft. Mine was 10+ years old and was the old style that slid into an under cabinet bracket! A great feature, but I guess a few kitchens caught fire, and the lawyers put a stop to it.
My mother in law got me this for Christmas this year:

It is much bigger, but I have found it to be more useful. It is considered a mid size - and I actually went to ABT to check out the others and found some VERY large ones. We now use it more than our regular oven. My only complaint is that it takes a while to heat up, but retains heat more - so if you toast on a certain setting, you second batch will get overdone.
You don't realize how critical your toaster oven is, until you have lost it!
Good luck,
JPK
PS that fancy Panisonic had very good and very bad ratings. In the end, I couldnt justify the $$.
