Space,
My wife and I faced a similar situation in our new apartment. We found a live wire behind the refrigerator. It wasn't connected to anything and just had some electrical tape on the end. Our electrician suggested leaving it active but just "capping" or some other designation properly and to code. That way, it would be safe to leave in place but available in the event we ever wanted to use it for something in the future. Seemed like good advice to us, so we followed it.
