I'm late to the party on your comment... sorry! I could rewire it, I have no problem messing about with electronics and what not and my soldering skills are pretty decent. I think I was just trying to avoid making any permanent changes to the lamp. Maybe I should just get one of those belkin plugs that's internet enabled so I can turn it on and off with my phone
