My neighbor was in a similar situation and I will tell you what I told her: go to Costco and get one from there. They offer a few dozen models (maybe more) ranging from basic with no frills (and a not so great picture) to absolutely fantastic with everything. She spent $1100 for a 50" LED with 120 hz refresh rate (better for watching sports or action movies as there is less of an "artifact" effect). Most TVs look nice and the people that work in the electronics section at Costco are not on commission so you will probably get an honest answer about the sets. They also sell the mounting equipment for wall mounting, and for a LOT less money than competitors for similar quality.
With Costco, if you bring the TV home and are not thrilled, put it back in the box and bring it back within 90 days for a full refund.
