The pressure is on for palm oil plantations.
Logging permits have been pulled/restrained to stop any more logging.
So the result the forests get cleared anyway.
There's also usually a thick layer of peat in and surrounding tropical forests .
Burns underground.
Happens in South America supposedly as well. iirc some surrounding thirst for ethanol from sugar
