Exactly. It's not that you should have to use the command line with Linux, assuming one is using of of the many modem GUI environments, but it can still be easier and/or faster to hit the command line. Not dissimilar from OS X really. I make bootable images via the command line because the commands are simple to remember or cut and paste from saved document, no need to hunt for the right options/app via the GUI.
