Ordinarily, the Applications folder in the home folder is redundant and empty. Do you have stuff in there?

It's there. You just can't see it.
Apple made it invisible in Mac OS X 10.7.
(Another way to see it is to hack the Finder pref's to show all invisible files, but that can be scary. There's a LOT of stuff hidden from you in the Mac OS.)
