Yes, GM's venture into diesel power for the consumer didn't go very well.
A co-worker had an 80's Cadillac Barritz (?) with a 350 diesel and it did not fare well at all. And they were very dirty back then. He was a right lane kind of guy, and when somebody tailgated, he'd hammer the gas pedal and with a cloud of soot and a hearty Ha Ha! Diesel! the tailgater was away.
He tried to sell the car when his dad passed, but nobody wanted it. So he traded it in on a Honda Civic, and once he got over the dealer's drubbing, he was very happy with the Civic.
