Blazers are "dress casual" wear. They're pretty niche these days. If you have the choice, it's almost always better to wear a suit. The notable exceptions being lunch at the clubhouse and teachers dragged against their will to fundraisers.
Micro fleece and heavy wool sport coats are even more niche. Sport coats are for recreation. The origin is from hunting-clubs. Outside of the use in sports/recreation, the only ones I see in sport coats lately are hipsters who wear them with torn jeans and shredded sneakers as some sort of statement on their inability to recognize that a dozen guys dressed identically aren't showing off their individuality.
Why not just look for a good suit? You could wear the jacket as a blazer if you feel the need for one, but still have the suit ready for significant occasions.
