there are some great vintage receivers, but many of them are overpriced now on the used market, IMO. most of the "vintage" receivers were only average at best, unless you for the top-of-the-line models from certain manufacturers.

for my money (and what I did), buy some old amps, find a nice preamp, and buy modern speakers, as older speakers often needed refoaming or work beyond what they are worth.

stereo equipment goes for pennies on the dollar on CL
