One by one the mice were led to the posts against the garden wall, already riddled with pock marks. Some cried silently, others simply shaking thier heads in disbelief that this was really happening.
The bright summer sun and crystal clear sky brought everything to a sharp clarity as the firing squad quietly, reluctantly, marched in file to their marks.
"At least that dirty rat went before me", he thought, as his paws were bound behind him by the First Sergeant, and the squad picked up their already loaded rifles from the rack....
