If she intends to access the printer via wireless, then definitely get a model that has, at the minimum, ethernet. Better yet, get one that has both ethernet and wireless. It'll make wifi printing more reliable.
There are always deals on B&W laser printers, especially when it comes to models from Brother. Always. Don't forget to check sites like staples.com and officedepot.com for not only deals but also coupons to reduce the price further.
Duplexing is a must these days and, if it was me buying the printer, I'd be looking at an all-in-one instead of a dedicated printer. The ability to make photocopies and send the occasional fax from home is _very_ handy. My family will always have an all-in-one. We use those features enough to definitely make one worthwhile.
