I listen to the Security Now podcast with Steve Gibson. He decided to build the biggest/fastest computer he could and run windows 7 on it. He calls it his "last computer" as he anticipates it lasting him until he doesn't need a real computer anymore. I'm not as old as Steve but I've had that in the back of my mind. At some point I'll just "lock in" and stay with whatever the current tech is. If Apple could fix a few things with OS X I'd almost be happy to do that.
I have been paying attention to linux more though. If I can't continue with Apple that's where I will go but I'm not seeing comparable apps on that platform though. I would like to see the return of the iLife concept. Most of us need a core set of apps. It would love to see apps continue to improve and evolve essentially forever rather than starting all over periodically or abandoning perfectly good software.
