Pasteboard XTerminator
©1993-1998 Markzware, Inc. All rights reserved.

Due to many user requests, Markzware has created Pasteboard XTerminator to completely eliminate the "requirement" caused by version 1.2 of Pasteboard XT.

Pasteboard XT version 1.4 and above also takes care of this problem, but for some reason many users are still using the old version which forces the XTension to be active in order to open certain documents. For example, a user creates a document using the older (1.2) Pasteboard XT and gives the document to a Service Bureau. Unfortunately, the document cannot be opened at the Service Bureau without them also having Pasteboard XT 1.2. This "requirement" was abandoned and handled several years ago with later versions of Pasteboard XT.

Pasteboard XTerminator has been created to completely eradicate the presence of the Pasteboard XT "requirement" and is accomplished by performing the following steps:

1. Remove the Pasteboard XT from your QuarkXPress (or QuarkXPress->XTension) folder and copy the Pasteboard XTerminator XTension into your QuarkXPress (or QuarkXPress->XTension) folder and launch QuarkXPress in the usual manner.

2. Go up to the Utilities menu and select "Pasteboard XTerminator". (Note that you may also use the standard File->Open dialog, if you know which documents you want to remove the "requirement" from).

3. A dialog will appear allowing you to locate and select all of the offending documents.

4. You can add a document to the list by selecting it from the file list and clicking the "Add" button (or hitting the Return key).

5. You can add all documents from the current folder by clicking the "Add All" button.

6. Documents can be removed from the list by selecting them and clicking the "Remove" button. For convenience, you can type command-a to Select All.

7. The "Scan" button will examine all documents on all drives and add their names to the document list (this can take several minutes to execute).

8. When ready, click the "Remove Req." button.

9. The dialog will go away and the selected documents will appear one by one. Each time you will be asked to save the document. The exact reason for being prompted (an XTension can save document automatically) is that if for some reason you are opening documents that were created using different Preferences, text could be reflowed differently than the original. Therefore, you will be asked to re-save each document (which also gives you a chance to cancel any save).

10. If you want, you can bring the Pasteboard XTerminator dialog back up and test the "Scan" one last time just to be certain. You will be alerted if in fact no documents can be found that have the original Pasteboard XT "requirement".

11. When finished, you may quit QuarkXPress, go back to the Finder, drag the Pasteboard XTerminator out of the QuarkXPress folder (as it is no longer needed), then gather all your fellow workers around your station and ceremoniously drag the old Pasteboard XT into the trash can. As you select "Empty Trash...", sound the trumpets, let the ballons loose, and wave those banners as life has then been returned back to your normal high-level production once again.

VERY INTERESTING!! Will try this on Monday at the office. I refuse to taint my home computer with anything Quark related. Thanks for the lead.
