I was so lucky the first time I saw the allman bros. One of my FAVORITE bands, but I wasn't really thrilled with the post-Duane version of the band although one of my favorite songs - High Falls came from that era. For me, it was the Fillmore band that thrill me.
In 1989 the ABB announced a concert in Sacramento as an afterthought - sometimes bands roll through the SF bay area and stop by Sacramento, sometimes not. But they only announced a week in advance - there was almost no one there (outdoors - Cal Expo Amphitheater). A big huge lawn was only about 15% filled and some people in the stands. it was the lightest attendance of a major band I had ever seen before or since.
IT WAS WONDERFUL! And that was the year they broke out with Warren Haynes - a guy that could play slide on a level with Duane. What a shock! It was an amazing show - one of my alltime favorites. I told everyone that would listen - GO SEE THE ALLMAN BROS - THEY ARE BACK!
Saw them many times since, but that was the best. Saw Gregg's band once - all great stuff.
