i'm thinking african safari-who has been and can recommend?
#8
I went to celebrate my 50th birthday and had a one-in-a-lifetime experience.

I had been to S.A. to shoot commercials before and asked the local production company in Cape Town who could help me. They recommended a travel agent, Vanessa Walker with Greatest Africa (vanessa@greatestafrica.com), who did a great job.

I stayed at a truly unique place. Jock Safari Lodge https://www.jocksafarilodge.com is inside Kruger National Park and is a 5-star experience. The food, the safaris, the service and care of the staff were superb.

About the name: Jock was an explorer's dog who lived in the African bush in the 1880s in a famous true story https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jock_of_the_Bushveld that became a book and a movie, kind of like Lassie in the States, and there are props from the movie scattered about the lodge grounds.

They didn't have a room in the main lodge so they put me somewhere even more unique. Fitzpatrick's Lodge https://www.jocksafarilodge.com/luxury-k...tzpatricks is an even more personalized experience a half-mile from the main house.

Only three rooms with a swimming pool overlooking the hippos in the river, and we shared our own cooks and safari guide. It was just me and a family from Brazil... and on the last day they left. It was just me. I literally had my own house and staff in the African bush, cooking me meals and taking me on safari. Like I said, a once-in-a-lifetime experience. And at about 11 PM, the staff left. It was literally me, alone in a house in the bush. (Well protected, mind you.... screened fencing to keep the monkeys out.)

I recommend it without reservation.
