Not at all. Teslas, Leafs, Bolts, i3s, Foci, and other mass market electrics all use differentials.
Independent motors per wheel sound great on paper, there are very good reasons why nobody except Honda has taken that approach on the rear of their newer SH-AWD system.
Differentials aren't going anywhere, even with all-electric drivetrains.
Thanks for clarification. I was under the impression that Tesla had one motor for each wheel.
