I also realize that the umps in the post season are there due to seniority. Hence, they are older - and the demographics were likely highly skewed when their cohort started in baseball.
This article from 2007 says the reason almost all umps start with little league etc, and those are almost all men:

Women have only been allowed to be considered to be an ump since 1972, when a woman named Bernie Gera won that right via a lawsuit.
Bottom line: I expect to see white males as umps for the 'World' Series for most of the rest of my life.
