Mnuchin rejects Congress request to hand over Trump tax returns
#11
Elected officials have public salaries. It's funny we hide their true income, so who cares if the salary is made public when it means nothing?

Why not change what Congress or the President earns to be private information? We delude ourselves with fake transparency, yet people complain all the time that politicians do everything under the table ... while demanding they be given privacy "as private citizens."

Seriously, if you're running for public office, or already in public office, why SHOULDN'T every aspect of your income be public? That loss of privacy for them would be wrong, exactly how? And don't give me any "slippery slope" B.S.

Do we want to keep pretending public officials are just holding office as a side gig, like how farmers would come in from the fields (or whatever) do the meeting/sign a doc, and go back out to the plow until sundown? At what point does that ancient model of the "citizen politician" no longer apply?
