Why not apply it to candidates? It would be good to know who someone is getting funded by, and whether they are savvy enough to shield that information from these kinds of disclosures.
Because until they are elected, they are still private citizens. I don't have any more right to look at their tax return than I do your tax return.
There are already rules and oversight for political campaigns are there not? Maybe we should just be enforcing those?
You’ve completely sidestepped gabester’s point: privacy when private citizens, no tax privacy (including what was previously private) if wanting to become ... wait for a it ... a public citizen. Further point being, if you’ve got something you don’t later want known, don’t run for office. Maybe public office isn’t a good fit in that case.
