Trump says his Doral resort will no longer host G-7 after backlash

BTW, everything we’ve seen of Trump these past few years suggests strongly that driving “the Hostile Media and their Democrat partners CRAZY” is a feature, not a bug, to this administration.

Which leads me to believe that someone on his side got his ear and told him how bad it looked.

Apparently several people on his side got his (tin) ear:

In a round of phone calls with conservative allies this weekend, Trump was told Republicans are struggling to defend him on so many fronts, according to an administration official...
many Republicans seemed reluctant to offer political cover.
Oh god. What has he said or done this time? Really? Really?

Trump blamed his G-7 reversal on critics, saying on Twitter that his decision to scrap plans for a summit at the Doral club was “based on both Media & Democrat Crazed and Irrational Hostility”. But behind closed doors, several aides and allies said, Trump changed his mind in response to pressure and frustration from his own party.

The thing is, Trump is incapable of seeing the presidency as anything other than another (temporary) business opportunity:

[His] chief of staff...explained Trump’s desire to host the G-7 at his property by saying the president “still considers himself to be in the hospitality business.”

Before he changed course, Trump had waved off concerns from advisers who said hosting world leaders at his club would not play well.

What’s the problem? The resort needs business badly, and I can provide it. Done!

This guy doesn’t know the name of his own Secretary of Defense. But from long experience, he knows how to pad real estate numbers, by any means at his disposal.
