I understand the frustration with leaving filled jobs open without notifying other candidates or taking the posting down. I've been on that side myself, especially the ghosting of interviewed candidates.
But, in M A V I C tradition, I have a caveat...as someone who hires for a few seasonal internships every spring. You are never sure if the whole thing is going to turn out until you see them report for work the first day. So, you don't close the listing, or notify the also-rans, in case you need to reopen the search. I'm working with college students, which are notoriously sketchy, but I can imagine the same feeling for real HR's.
