I agree. I think white classic French doors would be what you need. However, I would vote to leave it open. I think you'll get tired of opening and closing the door, as well as cleaning it.
And if they're going to be open all the time, then just the archway with no doors might be better.

I really don't like the look of that visible track on the barn doors. Pocket doors look nicer as sliders, but you'd need even more in-wall space for them.
