The worst compliment I get on the road is "This is really good. Just like Pizza Hut".
This was written by PizzaGod, but not meaning to disagree with him. But in a few places that statement can/could still be a compliment. But it will be an individual franchise operator still cooking the pizzas right, not one of the quick outlets Yum! has put out there.
One place that was still making it right was up in Maine near where my ex and my sons were living. Owner saw to it that he had good pizza cooks, that the dough and ingredients were handled right, and so on. The pizzas came out like they used to decades ago across the Pizza Hut chain. Things might have changed in the 10 years since I was last there with sons, but I hear of the isolated shop still putting out good pizza.
On the other hand, the 'Hut that used to operate about half an hour away let themselves go until they didn't;y make money, had health code citations, and eventually shut down. This in a college town, they failed to make money selling pizza.
As for the small outlets as opposed to Pizza Hut restaurants, I have never had one that got above mediocre.
