constant cravings?!.....this comic book character getting 'reboot' by 'HBO Max'......

Okay. Diversity. Strides. Yay and yay some more.

But.

How about we start stretching in a new direction?

It’s been interesting, and productive, to see classic/established characters reimagined and/or evolved using diverse personalities. Now for step two. Maybe an even bigger challenge and threat to the beloved, jealously guarded status quo.

New diverse characters, made new from whole cloth. That outstrip some of the icons and favorites.

That’s right. Not ‘just as good as’. Better.

The old guard don’t have to completely take a back seat to this next wave. But there would be stories when their God like status will have to make do with a lowercase “g” for the duration.

So yeah, Bats may be able to kick this new guy’s butt up the block and back with his mastery of every known fighting art. But.

When it comes to detecting? Holy smokes, this new guy is playing jazz to Batman’s “Old McDonald Had a Farm”.

Yeah. THAT much better.

Mr. Fantastic? All over physics he has to invent, just to challenge himself. However. That trans ‘operator’ who works for an agency that doesn’t even have letters attached to its name and loans them out for assignments when even the big dogs need a leg up?

When there’s no possible strategy to turn that “L” into a “W”, you have a seat Reed. They’ve got a few... dozen... ideas. And you might want to take notes, Cap.

Orpheus. 2001. Dwayne Turner. DC comics. A very strong start down that road. Kept pace with the Dark Knight step for step. And then...

... it’s 2004/5. Big event. War Games. Orpheus is now an “agent” of Batman, he’s been assigned to act as his puppet leader of... street gangs, Batman has enlisted a bodyguard to protect him and Batman stages a sham fight where he loses to Orpheus intentionally to prop up his failing reputation.

Orpheus’ end comes when meeting with a young Batman protege. The series’ big bad sneaks up on Orpheus and cuts his throat, killing him, leaving the protege defenseless. The big bad then tortures her, nearly killing her, then steals Orpheus’ costume so he can impersonate him, carving a bat in the chest of Orpheus’ corpse before leaving.

Yeah. We’re overdue for that next step in diversity.
