Because of fan noise. From all I've read/heard/seen, the noise I'm getting is considered normal for this model. Just chatted with Apple support, sent them a video, and they seemed to think it sounded normal.
For my needs and for $2k, I'm not particularly ready to deal with what, to me, is a significant tradeoff. I'm used to what is essentially silent computing with my M1 Mini, so for now, I'll go back to using that. This machine is a step up from the Mini for sure, and I hate to send it back. But I can wait for another 6-12 months and see what that brings.
Perhaps in a few months there will be an updated Mini that may fit the bill for something a bit beefier than what I've got now. Or maybe Apple releases a firmware update or something that silences Studio models that way. Either way, I don't want to be stuck with something that will get under my skin in the meantime.
Anybody want a nearly base model Studio (upgraded GPU)? Make me an offer I can't refuse, and skip the lines at Apple :-)
