Mainly, but you know people do sneeze on things or in their hands and touch something. It is possible to transfer via contact points but no where near as likely or high a risk as originally thought. Schools have been wiping down surfaces to combat the flu for years. It does make a difference, but not as a big a difference as if the sick person wasn't there or was masked.
