raise you hand if you can still hear 40Khz
#20
it is very rare that any human can hear above 16k let alone 20k or 40k. That's not to say that none can.

Hm.

As far as I know, nobody can directly hear a 40 KHz fundamental frequency

This.

If somebody told me they could here this, I wouldn't call them a liar.

But they'd be lying, as far as I'm concerned.

however a 40 KHz harmonic can change the way that lower fundamental frequencies sound. This is why different types of musical instruments have different characteristic "sounds" to them, even when they're playing the same note.

This.

many adult males are hard pressed to hear 16 kHz.

I'd go so far as to opine that most adult males, at least those 25 and over wouldn't be capable of hearing 16kHz.

But I think 20kHz would be entirely possible for younger males, and certainly females, who's audio acuity extends beyond that of a males, in range and age.

Whether or not I could ever hear content at 20kHz, I don't know, but concerts, the military, and tinnitus certainly erased any illusions that I may have entertained.
