"The left," if you mean Democrats, protects the civil rights of minorities. Even very small groups like transgender, nonbinary individuals. Nobody is "pushing " anything, transgender people exist, and deserve civil rights.
Rights that are constantly under attack by social conservatives/Republicans always on the lookout for new fundraising scare tactics.
That's what we do. If everyone did only what they thought was politically expedient, this would be a horrible country to live in.
Somebody has to care about, and take care of, the people.
Protecting civil rights is a core value I have as an American. There are plenty of 'left'-leaning folk who are trying to reduce the rights of their political opponents. I grew up in Illinois - just see how Chicago has been run by Dems.
Partisan gerrymandering has been practiced by both sides, and it's wrong in my view whichever side is doing it.
My view of the 'trap' that was mentioned is not the core value of protecting civil rights. It's that over-reacting to loonies on the right (like MTG) - even when it's great for fundraising in the short-term - only amplifies the MTGs of the world. They need to be ignored.
