If the Electoral College was according to the popular vote, there would no longer be a need for it.
My understanding is that it exists to ensure that the more populated states do not completely control the elections; forever.
That is, the “State” of New York should be no more powerful than the “State” of Montana.
If I’ve got this wrong, please correct me.
