Why does every damned thing in the world have an app to go with it?

I'm getting so damned sick of 'apps'.

Everywhere I go, I'm told I should get the app. Whenever I buy something, it comes with an app. Every store has an app. Every website has an app. Every tech item comes with an app. My car came with an app.

I just went to the kitchen to check - no, my bananas do not have an associated app, but it's only a matter of time...

get off my lawn dammit!
