I have the same attachment to Photoshop. DxO generates TIFs that I can process on post-Mojave Macs and then open in CS6 on my Mac Pro or 2015 MBP, so that's been one reason for using DxO. I hope my Macs running CS6 and CS5 live forever, or that they at least outlive me.

DxO PhotoLab has a tool for micro-contrast that can be very nice for bringing out subtle details. It's easier than trying to finesse those things with curves.
