You can't just blame Republicans for this one. The attitude I see from Democrats is let people in illegally because we need people to do the work we don't want to do. These are jobs we don't want to do, and I don't see letting them do them as some sort of social justice or something. I'm not sure letting them do these jobs is all that generous of us, legal or not.
The first generation will do what they have to, the second generation will do what they want, the sky’s the limit. Pretty much like immigrants from the past - not counting those who were enslaved and who still would be if the South had won the Civil War.
Is there a second generation for these guys? Hopefully they got to it on the procreation. I see some 2nd gen doing well, but I know there are huge numbers who do not. My family was largely farmers, but they didn't do great, and what immigrants do is a lot worse. Many of these jobs wear them out physically by 40 or 50, and then what do they do? And these jobs have the highest accidental injury/death rate of any jobs here. I've seen this personally. It might be better than where they came from (or at least they have a small chance of success), but it's not good. I bet the parents in Gaza would jump at an offer to clean out the reactors at Chernobyl, but would you feel good about giving them that "opportunity"?
You're not doing anyone favors by allowing illegal immigration. Definitely not the moral high road, actually even if they have a visa.
You’re doing us a favor by having immigration, legal or not, because that is what will keep our economy from stagnating like Japan’s and, soon, China’s.
I’m visiting family in the Rio Grande Valley. Lots and lots of cross border traffic. The local hate radio station toes the Republican line about “illegals” even though the local economy would collapse without all the immigrants.
